What
began as a fundraiser for the St. Joseph's
Catholic Church renovations project, has expanded to one of
the premiere arts and crafts show in Lambton County. Initially,
sixteen people were charged with finding a way to offset the $345,000
shortfall in the building fund, and
Arts and Crafts 2000 was
born. Under the guidance of Wayne Thomas and a host of volunteers,
Arts and Crafts 2000 saw
almost 130 vendors and close to 4000 guests in its first year.
Deb Winterton, church secretary at St. Joseph's, says, "We
are not just trying to build a building ... we are trying to build
community", and in this case the community responded.

Held
in late spring each year at Corunna Athletic
Park, Arts and Crafts 2000
has become an annual event and requires an army of volunteers
to plan and execute this giant one-day show. Each year the response
from vendors and guests alike has been incredibly positive. Mother
Nature herself has been unable to put a dent in the enthusiasm.
Wayne Thomas spends a good deal of time each year searching for
the highest quality vendors for this show. Because of this, Arts
and Crafts 2000 continues to attract large crowds
and a good, diverse group of crafters and other vendors. This
years event has been set for May 31 2009, and is shaping up to
be another great year.
